Gentle winter impacts Northern Ohio auto repairs

The unusually hot winter has had significant impacts on the auto and auto repair industry.   All Northern Ohio cars received one third of the salt or less that they normally would.  Thus the rate of corrosion on a Ohio car would be diminished.  Items that are exposed such as brake rotors will last longer because the deterioration of the rotors via rust has lessened.  Other items in the suspension such as the need for a 'pot hole  special' front end alignment may not be needed this Spring.  The air conditoning and the cooling system were not tested to the extreme temperature that the previous 2010-2011 Winter challenged them.  Where ever you have an exposed fitting or linkage or line (brake line, gas tank, strut mount) it can be compromised.  The salt also impacts our Aluminum wheels by oxidizing them (getting between the clear finish and the actual aluminum wheel).  Sunroof drains also have has water and snow to process so lees chances of failure.

Anything that is electronic in the car will most likely fail if wet, so extreme precautions are taken to assure dryness with sealed units or placed inside the car (under seat or in dash.)  This also means less less tires were replaced because of less need to increase traction.   The extreme hot and cold expands and then gaps the roads causing breaches.  Less breaches equates to less windshields replaced because of less deteriorated roads tossed up to chip the glass.  The extreme hot and cold temps also breakdown your lubricants quicker (coolant and oils).  The most glaring visual item to noticed this winters impact is the undercarriage look at a southern (salt free) car and The chassis from the South are shiny.
